Another Hot Day

We ran some errands today. We took Ollie in for a bath and haircut as the weather is in the low eighties today and will be warm for the next several days. We went shopping at a golf store and picked up a supply of tee's, green repair tools, ball markers, and last but certainly not least, a pair of Footjoy golf shoes apiece. Tomorrow is our final golf lesson, this one is at the Rancho Mirage Country Club with their golf pro. Thank God we won't have to get up at 5:30am anymore. We will probably hit off the driving range after the lesson, since we are there and have our clubs with us. It will be nice and cool for it at about 7:30am.
Ollie looks good and is definitely cooler with his new clip. He didn't get much nap time today being at the groomers all afternoon and is currently snoozing soundly as I am typing this.
We also stopped at Costco today to pick up a few things we were short on, water, tuna fish, etc.
First time we have gotten out of there for a hundred bucks.

Enyoying the Sunshine

The good weather it back with a vengence! 80 Degrees for the next few days. Susan has a slight cold so that kept us out of the pool today but we will have to get in tomorrow as it was really warn today.
We have been enjoying two of our favorite shows that have returned for the winter, "Lost" and "Survivor" and I've been reading a lot. I've even been reading on my iphone..."Treasure Island" and "Huckleberry Finn" which are both designated public domain which means you do not have to pay for the books online. I believe after the author has been dead 100 years that happens, so many of the classic books are free online. You can download any book for a fee....about $10-12 is about average. If I have to pay I would still prefer a paper version but on the iphone is handy since you always seem to have it with you and can read any time you have some free time.
I watched the Daytona 500 Sunday afternoon, exciting ending but problems with the track delayed it over two hours. We went to "The Chop House" for dinner and had a nice dark booth, with candle, and had a great Valentines Day Dinner. We started with escargot, then a very nice wedge salad - the lettuce in California is so fresh, light, and crisp - then the entre of rare Prime Rib and twice baked potato. Coffee and a shared desert sampler finished us off.

February Update

We are watching the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies from Vancouver, Canada on TV tonight. I thought I should add an entry to our blog since we mostly post to Facebook these days. California is having a wet winter by their standards. It looks like most of that is past as we have 75 to 80 degree weather forecast for the next ten day...no chance of rain. Even on overcast days the weather has been in the sixties so I would not say the weather here has been bad, you just quickly get used to the idea of clear, sunny, bright blue skies real easy and any variance is disappointing. We have seen a lot of movies in theaters, and on Netflix, as well as read a lot of books. Most enjoyable movies I have seen include Blindside, Avatar, Up, and 500 Day of Summer.
We have been taking golf lessons, free at the resort, and have our 6th and final lesson this coming week at the Rancho Mirage Country Club, whose golf course is open to the public. We get a reduced rate there and can hit as many golf balls as we want on the driving range for $5.
There are 27 par three golf holes on the resort and some are reasonably challenging for par three holes. You have to hit over water several times but the average golfer could probably play the whole course with a 7, 9, PW, and putter. I think the longest hole is about 150 yards. It takes about two and a half hours to play the 18 hole course.
We really like it down here and plan on coming back next year. I think we will stay home for the holidays and leave for Palm Springs right after Xmas depending on weather conditions. We just can't get the Xmas spirit down here. Probably will stay here Jan, Feb, and March then head for San Diego and work our way up the beach in April to get home before May first.
We are planning on driving over to Vegas for a weekend with Paul and Linda this month, probably the last weekend of the month. We are looking forward to seeing their new house and visiting a little before we head back home at the end of next month. We've been gone for about four months now and only have about six weeks left before we head back. It went pretty fast.
I now have to mention that both "Lost" and "Survivor" are now both back on with new episodes, and since we have no DVR to record them, we work our schedule around being in the rig when those two shows are on.
Larry & Rose are supposed to be in Palm Springs for the first week in March and Mark & Carol plan on being in the desert around that same time so we will be busy with the last few weeks here.
Look forward to seeing everyone back home this spring. I have not had good salmon since we left. The salmon in the stores down here are Atlantic salmon and obviously not the same as fresh salmon in the NW. Other that that the food is good down here. We are going to a restaurant called "The Chop House" here in Palm Springs for Valentines Day. Susan wants Prime Rib and they are a great steak house. We ate there last year and had; escargot, wedge salad, martinis, and Chateau Brianne (sp) along with creme brulee for desert. Everything was excellent and super rich food. We it IS Valentines Day.
More later.
